Gassiev dismisses Kabayel unification rumours as 'fake news'
The WBA heavyweight champion says he knew nothing about a Kabayel unification bout, calling the reports "fake news" — though he did not rule the fight out later.
Murat Gassiev has pushed back on reports linking him to a unification fight with WBC champion Agit Kabayel. "I woke up and saw some messages from my friends saying, 'Hey, you're fighting Kabayel'. But I never heard about this," the WBA titleholder said. "This is fake news." He did not close the door entirely, suggesting it could happen after another fight or within a year, and has separately said he would travel to Germany for it. As it stands the bout is unmade.
