Deniz Undav appointed VfB Stuttgart captain

Deniz Undav takes over the captaincy at VfB Stuttgart from Atakan Karazor ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

VfB Stuttgart have named Deniz Undav as their new team captain. Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß selected the forward to succeed Atakan Karazor, who held the role for the previous two seasons.

Undav assumes the leadership duties ahead of the club's opening fixture against FC Bayern München on 28 August 2026. Hoeneß described the 30-year-old as an experienced figure who carries significant responsibility within the squad and maintains close communication with the coaching staff.

Karazor served as captain for two years, a tenure highlighted by lifting the DFB Cup in 2025. Undav becomes the 24th Bundesliga skipper in the club's history since 1963.
