Amedspor, based in Amed, is among the most emotionally significant clubs in Kurdish football. In May 2026 the club sealed promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in its history, reaching Turkey's top flight after finishing second in the TFF 1. Lig. It began life there with a 3-0 home win over fellow newly-promoted Erzurumspor FK. Beyond results on the pitch, the club carries deep cultural meaning for supporters and regularly draws passionate crowds wherever it plays.
Began life in the amateur leagues as Melikahmet Turanspor. The city municipality took the club over in 1990, and it played under a succession of municipal names for the next two decades.
The club's congress adopted the name Amedspor in October, taking the Kurdish name for its home city. The Turkish Football Federation fined the club for changing its name and emblem without approval, before recognising the change in 2015.
Won the TFF 2. Lig Red Group to reach Turkey's second tier for the first time in the club's history.
Finished second in the TFF 1. Lig behind Erzurumspor, confirming a first-ever promotion to Turkey's top flight in May.
